About UBAC

UBAC stands for Ubangui Academy which was the school for children of missionaries serving in the Ubangui region in the northwest corner of Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo).  In 1997 civil unrest and threat of war caused the evacuation of missionaries from the country.  Students had begun the school year that fall, but after October or Christmas break, classes did not resume.  The school was never to be in session again.

Missionaries who stayed in Africa sent their children to Rain Forest International School.  To accomodate those students who had been at UBAC, the UBAC Hostel was established.  The original UBAC school and mission station where it was located was eventually looted.  While the buildings now serve the Covenant Church of Congo (CEUM), all that remains of the former school is this banner:

I know there are more details, but those of you who were here in Cameroon at that time, please help me fill in the blanks.

Thanks!

Band concerts and plays were performed on the large front porch of the UBAC dorm.  Proud parents, extended missionary family and Zairian neighbors watched from the front lawn of the dorm.
Graduation 1991 - graduations also took place on that porch
